Visitor Services Associate

The Visitor Services Associate (VSA) is dually responsible for providing great visitor/customer service and security to all visitors during the course of our season (April-November).

The Visitor Services Associate  greets and serves visitors to provide the best possible visitor experience.

Visitor/Customer Service Core Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of visitors and to ensure the security of all Gardens property.

  • Contribute to the pleasant experience of visitors and to carry out their duties with a courteous and pleasant manner at all times (e.g., providing helpful answers to questions)

  • Processes admissions, encourage and sell memberships, and guide visitors to locations of interest through the Garden in a friendly and professional manner.

  • Ensure that policies and procedures designed to protect Old Westbury Gardens, its collections, property, staff, volunteers, contractors and visitors are followed properly.

  • Essential Functions As part of ensuring a safe and pleasant experience for visitors to Old Westbury Gardens the responsibilities entails making sure the museum and its grounds are presentable. With this goal in mind, VSA's responsibilities include (but are not limited to) tasks such as

  • Monitors visitors and alarm systems; Report writing, ledger notations, email, conveying information

  • Performs extensive patrols/inspections of Westbury House, the gardens and the grounds; Responds to emergency situations

  • Escort photography permit holders throughout grounds for photoshoots.

  • Process admissions, promote memberships

  • Assist in the setup, operation, and break down for events and programs. Examples include but not limited to weddings, dinners, concerts, etc.

  • Help maintain the cleanliness of Old Westbury Garden’s grounds.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to maintain professional composure at all times.

  • Must be in good physical and mental health, able to remain standing for extended periods of time, lift at least 30 lbs. and must be comfortable/able to navigate in outdoor wooded areas.

  • Must be able to work on weekends, certain designated holidays, extended hours, off-hours events (evenings)

  • Must be flexible with scheduling and able to change plans on short notice (in the event of an emergency)

  • Must have the ability to function effectively as a member of a close-knit team as well as independently

  • High School diploma or GED (college degree strongly preferred), a reliable means of communication (i.e., cell phone, email).

  • Must be a team player, adaptable, dependable, trustworthy, confidential, personable

Schedule

3-5 days per week, April-November

8 hour shift, day shift, late afternoon -evening shift

Weekdays (except Tuesdays ) and Weekends as scheduled

Job Type: Part-time/Seasonal;
Pay: From $16.50 per hour

Weekend Custodian

The Weekend Custodian is a part time/seasonal position that is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of Old Westbury Gardens during weekends of our season (April-November).

Weekend Custodian’s Core Responsibilities

  • Policing the grounds to remove any litter
  • Ensuring all trash cans have fresh liners and are changed when needed
  • Keeping the restroom facilities well maintained and clean for our visitors
  • Helping to set up for events as well as breaking down events (weddings, concerts, etc…)
  • Taking initiative to perform tasks without being instructed to.

Job Requirements

  • Must be available to work weekends from the months of April –November
  • Must have a close eye for detail.
  • Ability to maintain professional composure at all times.
  • Must be in good physical and mental health, able to remain standing and walking for extended periods, lift at least 30 lbs. and must be comfortable/able to navigate in outdoor wooded areas.
  • Must be able to work certain designated holidays
  • Must be flexible with scheduling
  • Must have the ability to function effectively as a member of a close-knit team as well as independently
  • Must have a High School diploma or GED (college degree strongly preferred), a reliable means of communication (i.e., cell phone, email) and a reliable form of transportation.
  • Must be a team player, adaptable, dependable, trustworthy, confidential, personable

Schedule

  • Saturday’s and Sunday’s from April 1st-November (official end date TBD)
  • Shift times will usually run from 10:30am-6:30pm. (Can be subject to change if there is a day with an event going on)
  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift (Required)
  • Every weekend
  • Weekends only

Job Type: Part-time, Seasonal

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
