Director of Development

Office: Development
Reports to: President & CEO
Status: Full Time
Salary Range: $95,000 - $105,000
Position Level: Senior Management

Position Summary:

The Director of Development leads Old Westbury Gardens’ fundraising efforts, including major gifts, events, annual giving, membership, corporate/foundation fundraising, and capital campaigns. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills to work with senior staff, the Board, volunteers, and donors to meet financial and strategic goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan and budget in collaboration with leadership and the Board.

  • Oversee annual fund, events, membership, sponsorships, and foundation proposals.

  • Manage staff and foster team alignment with organizational goals.

  • Cultivate corporate, community, and individual prospects, including board candidates and event honorees.

  • Ensure timely execution of development processes and policies.

  • Track and report on fundraising performance and drive a culture of accountability.

  • Lead campaign activities, including committee management, prospect strategies, proposals, communication, and progress monitoring.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of fundraising experience, with a focus on major gifts.

  • Proven experience in leading teams and working with boards and volunteers.

  • Strong background in special events, donor communication, and capital campaign management.

  • Familiarity with Blackbaud Altru and MS Office.

  • Knowledge of Long Island and NYC fundraising communities is a plus.
