Join Old Westbury Gardens for an enlightening afternoon with author Arthur Dobrin, who will present his historical novel, Westbury Imagined, in an engaging lecture exploring the pivotal moments that shaped the community we know today.
In Westbury Imagined, Mr. Dobrin brings to life the early encounters between Indigenous people and European settlers, the difficult history of African enslavement and the struggle for freedom, the arrival of Italian immigrants, the era of fox-hunting millionaires, and the evolution of suburbia. Through vivid storytelling, he offers a fresh perspective on the rich and complex history of the Westbury area.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Arthur Dobrin is a Professor Emeritus at Hofstra University, Leader Emeritus of the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island and the author of more than 30 books.
He has been a resident of Westbury since 1968.
