The Sounds For Sculpture project is a dynamic, multi-sensory performance featuring original musical compositions by internationally renowned jazz vibraphonist and composer Christian Tamburr.
The music is inspired by a selection of iconic bronze sculptures by iconic sculptor Seward Johnson. The project premiered at Lincoln Center in 2019 and comes to Old Westbury Gardens with an ensemble of some of top names in jazz, including trumpeter Dominick Farinacci, pianist Oscar Perez, drummer Carmen Intorre Jr., and bassist Jonathan Michel.

Christian Tamburr (Bandleader / Composer / Vibraphonist) is a world-renowned composer, arranger, pianist and vibraphonist with performances in over 75 countries around the world. His current touring project "Sounds For Sculpture" premiered at Lincoln Center in 2019 and features original music inspired by the iconic bronze sculptures by Seward Johnson. As a headliner, Christian has performed at such venues as The Kennedy Center in Washington DC, O'Lympia in Paris, Birdland in NYC, The North Sea Jazz Festival in The Netherlands, and the Gardens of the Pallazzo Corsini al Prato in Florence Italy.
Christian has performed alongside legendary jazz artists such as Dave Brubeck, Milt Hinton, James Moody, Dave Koz, Arturo Sandoval, Kenny Barron, Clark Terry and many more. As a musical director, Christian has worked for Julio Iglesias, Penn & Teller, Cirque du Soleil, actress Julia Roberts, NBA legend Michael Jordan. His original music can be heard on TV and film including the OWN Network 2021 premier documentary "The Legacy of Black Wall Street". He is a US ambassador for the arts to the UAE and Asia on behalf of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Dominick Farinacci (Trumpet) has been named Global Ambassador to Jazz at Lincoln Center by Wynton Marsalis. His mission is to help integrate jazz into communities around the world. Farinacci graduated from The Juilliard School in 2005 and launched his career in Japan with a run of eight albums. He released two more globally, touring the world with his band. He is a recipient of the International New Star award.
Farinacci is a featured performer for the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland and in Abu Dhabi. He has taken part in the first jazz performance for patients in Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with the Cleveland Clinic and the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation. He recently organized panel discussions about patient-doctor communications through music with Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar.
Oscar Perez (Piano), a New York City native, has shared the stage with jazz legends Bunky Green, George Russell, Curtis Fuller, and George Garzone. He received his formal education at New England Conservatory of Music and the Aaron Copland School of Music under the guidance of Danilo Perez and Sir Roland Hanna, respectively. Recently, he has been appointed music director for St Edward’s Church in Harlem, N.Y., as well as accompanist for the Nightingale/Bamford Gospel Choir.
Latest travels have included Colombia, Costa Rica, and the AgraJazz Festival on the Azores Islands of Portugal.
Carmen Intorre Jr. (Drums) began playing drums at age five. He has performed and recorded with numerous musicians such as George Benson, Larry Coryell, Wynton Marsalis, Monty Alexander, George Coleman, Eric Alexander, George Cables, Benny Golson, Richie Cole, Joe Locke, Lew Tabackin, Bobby Watson, Ira Sullivan, Bucky Pizzarelli, and many others. Carmen currently holds down the drum chair with legendary jazz guitarist Pat Martino, touring extensively throughout the world with the guitarist's organ trio and quintet.
A 2011 GRAMMY® nominee for his co-producer credit on the critically acclaimed album by Joey DeFrancesco entitled Never Can Say Goodbye: The Music of Michael Jackson, Intorre also had the pleasure of performing alongside DeFrancesco and Dr. Lonnie Smith on the PBS show Legends of Jazz, hosted by Ramsey Lewis.
Jonathan Michel (Bass) was born and raised in Waterbury, Connecticut. Jonathan Michel is a bassist, composer and arranger of Haitian descent known for his performances all over the world. Some associated acts include Billy Paul, Laurin Talese, Soul Science Lab, Dominick Farinacci, Godwin Louis and Orrin Evans. Based in New York City (after a formative stint in Philadelphia in the 2000s), Michel released his debut album “MDR” on Imani Records in December 2018.
